There are several sources online to find sound absorption materials and you will find some of the best choises here. But Ebay has become such a great source for both new and used items, that you can almost always find discounted material there. Here is what is currently available on ebay now. We live in a world full of noise. Sometimes the din gets to us. Why do you think you often feel like running off to a desert island or a lonely seaside? It is particularly bad if you happen to live in an apartment block where the walls carry every little sound from the next flat into yours. But with a little effort, you might manage to minimize, if not eliminate altogether, the noises surrounding you. I am going to tell you about some of the ways to do it in this article.

Since we inhabit different kinds of spaces at different times, the demands of noise-reduction vary accordingly. The two most common spaces where we want to dampen or deaden sound are inside our homes and within our cars. So let us talk about the available options we have in sound-absorbing and sound-deadening materials and products in these two areas in this article.

Peaceful homes

First, a clarification. Sound deadening is not the same thing as sound-proofing. The latter is a more complicated, structural process, which requires intervention at the level of architecture and engineering. But what you are looking for, probably, is not to cut out sounds altogether, but to minimize, or deaden them. Towards that end, the first thing to target in your home would be the walls on which you can put some sound-deadening insulation, such as homasote. An even better way, depending on the space you have, would be to introduce a layer of dry wall (called a “resilient channel”) behind your existing wall. There are various kinds of liquid insulations available in the market, as well as liners and fabrics, such as vibration-absorbent polyester.

There are some less expensive materials too, such as waffle foams, blade tiles and fiberglass panels. But the cheapest option, though a total disaster in the area of looks, would be empty egg crates. But only a few would seriously consider this last option for their home, unless they have an excellent concealing idea.

Silently on the roads

Cars mean a variety of noises —- from the engine, exhaust, vibrations, even your car stereo, not to mention those from the road. There is a range of products designed to absorb and deaden sounds in your car. First, there are dampers which absorb structural vibrations and lower panel resonance. Good dampers are manufactured by Extreme and Ultimate. Second, there are absorbers, which uses foam to actually absorb sound waves. Vcomp, Lcomp and Hliner are some well-known makers of absorbers. Third, there are barriers, which uses ,etal (usually lead, to prevent road and engine noises from passing through. Again, you can turn to Vcomp and Lcomp for products in this category. The functions of the absorber and barrier are also available combined in a single product, which, not surprisingly, is called ‘composite’.

Bigger deals

Apart from these individual sound-absorbing and sound-deadening materials and products, you also get a range of solutions to take care of minimizing sound in interior spaces. These usually mean a full package comprising wall baffles, ceiling banners, clouds and treatments. Needless to say, these are quite expensive, and if you don’t happen to live in the middle of a motor factory, you should be reasonably happy with the individual products that we have listed here.
